Will a dentist do this...?

Oral surgeon actually...I was scheduled for the 7th to have my wisdom teeth extracted.I was called today and told he is going into unexpected surgery himself.They moved my appointment to the 28th of July...my wisdom teeth are erupted and all broken in half or more with exposed nerves and ihe has seen how bad they are.I asked if they would prescribe some pain relief since I'm waiting another month.They asked for my pharmacy info and said he was not there today but she would put a note on his desk and they would get with me tomorrow.Will they prescribe me any pain meds?Is that a common thing when one has to wait so long?
