Will an oral surgeon prescribe me pain meds?

He is having surgery and my appoinment to have my wisdom teeth extracted has been moved to 28th of July.my teeth are erupted and all broken.I've been fighting infection and swelling for months already.I asked when they callled me today if they would prescribe me some meds and they said he would be in tomorrow.They would leave him a note...If I don't hear something before the days out should I call back or will they normally give meds for this
