Is it even possible to register my yearling filly?

So I have this female yearling... given from someone to someone to me. So I was told she is a double registered QH, and I don't even know which second association she would be with. I'm not even sure she's registered to be honest and I cannot trace back to her original owners, I've spent hours trying to do so. I was wondering if any association can register a horse without breeding information, or if it is even legal to register a horse with a chance of already being registered. I have one option other than this, sending in hair for genetic testing and paying to find her parents. I'd like to see if there is anything else I can do?
